We stay in the Haute Vallée de l'Aude, in the scenic Valley of the Sals.  At 310m (1017ft) in altitude, situated halfway between the Mediterranean and the Pyrenees in the heart of the Cathar country, Rennes les Bains is cradled between Mount Cardou (796m) and the peak of Bugarach (1231m), the first Pyrenean foothills.

The village has been dedicated to hydrotherapy since before Roman times, and Augustus Caesar used to make the trip to Rennes les Bains to soak in the now crumbling, Roman baths. Rennes les Bains has kept its spa tradition into modern times and attracts tourists from around the world. The waters are slightly mineralized and the various natural hot springs in town range from 99° F to 111 ° F and the naturally salty river is perfect for a post-ride plunge.
